Make Soap & Lip Balm with Angela

An experience by: Angela Carillo

About this experience

Hi, I’m Angela—soapmaker, candle pourer, lip balm crafter, and lover of all things that smell amazing and feel good on your skin. I’ve been making natural body products for over 20 years, and now I’m bringing the experience straight to you.

In this cozy, hands-on workshop, I’ll come to your home and guide you through making three beautiful self-care essentials from scratch:

A bar of handmade soap, scented with essential oils you choose

A soy wax candle that smells exactly how you want it to

Two tubes of lip balm, blended with nourishing oils and butters

Don’t worry—you don’t need any experience. I’ll bring all the tools, ingredients, and gear. We’ll talk about scent blending, natural ingredients, and why handmade always feels better. You’ll learn a little science, a little art, and a whole lot of good-for-you beauty magic.

By the end, you’ll have a bag full of goodies made by your own hands, and hopefully a big smile on your face.

Let’s make something beautiful together. 💛
You'll learn the secrets behind essential oil blending, how to safely work with natural ingredients, and the science that transforms simple materials into soothing rituals. Whether you're creating gifts or treating yourself, you'll leave with a bag of handmade wellness products—and the joyful memory of making them.

About your Hexpert

Hi, I’m Angela and I started Alegna Soap®

I’ve always been a follow-the-rules type. You know, be a good girl, don’t make waves, color in the lines, get a job with benefits, get married, have kids etc.

I was first Dominick and Ruth’s daughter, then I was Brian’s wife. Once my kids were born, I was Steve and Elaine’s mom. These are all wonderful things to be, and I’m grateful to be them.

Like lots of woman, everyone else came before me. I was a stay-at-home mom, working odd jobs that fit around my children’s schedules. I cleaned houses and babysat. After a while, I found a job in a public school system that worked for me.

But once my kids left home, I needed more. I’m a Medical Technologist by trade, and gave up my career when Steve was born. The thought of going back and working in a hospital didn’t excite me at all. I lost my seniority and working weekends and nights was not my idea of fun.

In 2010, I decided to take my hobby, soap making, and turn it into a business. I had been making soap for about 10 years at that point. I could keep my job in the school and work on the business in the afternoons and night. So, for another 10 years that’s what I did.

Fourteen years later, here I am. I’m still not a risk taker, but I try to push out my comfort zone all the time. I’ve spoken at soap conferences all over the country and once flew to Haiti to teach women in tent camps how to make soap. (Talk about out of my comfort zone!). I started a YouTube channel. I teach soap making classes locally, make soap for my business and for others to slap on their labels. I love collaborating with other makers and watching their ideas come to life.
